Item No: 81784.
The Douglas TBD Devastator, a torpedo bomber ordered by the United States Navy in 1934, first took flight in 1935 and was put into service in 1937. Considered the most advanced aircraft at the time for the USN and possibly any other navy, it quickly became outdated due to rapid advancements in aircraft technology. Although it performed well in early battles, during the Battle of Midway, the Devastators sent out against the Japanese fleet suffered heavy losses. As a result, it was replaced by the Grumman TBF Avenger and immediately retired from frontline service.
