The Archer is a 155mm wheeled self-propelled howitzer created through the collaboration of Bofors and BAE Systems. Development began in 1995, with BAE Systems Global Combat Systems mounting a 155 mm FH-77 artillery system on the back of a modified VME A25C (6 × 6) all-terrain Volvo truck chassis. Its deployment time has been drastically reduced from 10 minutes to just 30 seconds compared to traditional self-propelled howitzers. The first units were scheduled for delivery in October 2011, with production continuing for two years. Each Archer gun system operates with a crew of 3-4, significantly fewer than the 10-12 operators needed for its predecessor.
