Hobby Boss 80357 F8F-1B Bearcat 1/48 Model Kit
Item No: 80357.
The Grumman F8F Bearcat was the final example of the company's carrier-based piston-engine fighters. In November 1943, two XF8F-1 prototypes were commissioned, with the first one taking flight on August 21, 1944. Grumman once again opted for the most powerful engine of the era, the Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp, which had been used in their previous Hellcat and Tigercat designs. However, this time the engine was paired with the smallest and lightest airframe possible, resulting in a swift and highly maneuverable aircraft with a 30% improvement in climb rate compared to the Hellcat.
