The F-14A underwent improvement in March 1987, adding the GE F110-400 engine, the ALR-67 Radar Homing and Warning (RHAW) system, and other avionic components. Subsequently, the F-14A+ was re-designated as the F-14B in May 1991 with a total of 38 newly manufactured aircraft and 48 F-14A upgrades.
