In 1914, Count Zeppelin, a famous German airship maker, founded a special design bureau led by Claudius Dornier. This bureau eventually became Dornier, a major aircraft manufacturer during the Third Reich. Dornier focused on bombers and maritime planes, with the Do 17 and Do 217 series standing out as key bomber models. The Do 217K-1 was a variant featuring a redesigned front fuselage with a single-unit upper canopy, offering more space for the crew and better pilot visibility. Equipped with twin BMW 80ID engines, it could reach speeds of 515 km/h at 4,000 meters. The bomber had strong defensive armament at five positions, later increased to seven, and could carry up to 4,000 kg of bombs.
