Description

Item No: DS4804.

To combat Ho Chi Minh's troops in 1966, the American military deployed B-26K strike aircraft in Southeast Asia. They were stationed at the Nakhon Phanom airfield in northeastern Thailand, strategically located near possible combat zones. Due to political restrictions, these B-26Ks were designated as A-26A attack aircraft in order to remain in Thailand. The 609th special operations squadron operated these aircraft, along with light O-2 Skymaster planes, for special missions and night sorties, as the Vietnamese air defense posed a major threat to slower piston aircraft. Some of the O-2 Skymasters even had black fuselage painting for their covert operations.
