The late-1970s DIVAD program saw the creation of the M247 Sergeant York, an anti-aircraft gun tank. This vehicle featured an upgraded hull from the M48 Patton main battle tank, with a new turret carrying two 40mm Boforrs rapid-fire cannons directed with the aid of radar. Unfortunately, various technical glitches and excessive costs eventually led to its cancellation in 1985.
