The compact Impreza followed two years later, now equipped with tested technology. This sports sedan gained an immense fanbase, as drivers sought a street car with WRC-worthy power. Generation two of the Impreza arrived in 2000, the WRX STi model (from Subaru Tecnica International) boasting a reinforced cylinder block, molybdenum-coated steel pistons, high-capacity turbo and intercooler, and a 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine.
