Item No: 35164.
In response to the growing threat of Russian tanks late in World War II, Germany began developing the heavy Panzerkampfwagen VI-B Tiger II, commonly called the King Tiger, in February 1943. Featuring thick armor and a powerful 88mm Type 43 L71 gun, it could penetrate 170mm of armor at 1000 meters. Rival turret designs from Henschel and Porsche were tested, with the Henschel model chosen for production. Powered by a 700-horsepower Maybach V-12 engine, the King Tiger’s robust defenses included 185mm turret front armor. Production started in August 1944, but fewer than 500 were deployed in combat.
