Item No: 35330.
Originally developed for the U.S. military in 1966, the M561 Gama Goat was an off-road, amphibious truck featuring an articulation joint between its 4-wheel tractor and 2-wheel carrier modules. This joint enabled the modules to rotate independently of one another and allowed the truck to climb over obstacles like a mountain goat. A total of 14,000 Gama Goats were produced until 1973 and were used by both the U.S. Army and Marine Corps in various roles, including the 1983 engagement in Grenada. However, by 1990 the Gama Goat had been replaced by other vehicles. It was given its nickname by Roger Gamaunt, the inventor of the articulation joint, and 'goat' for its remarkable climbing ability.
