The Delta Dart evolved from the Convair F-102 Delta Dagger, featuring a more powerful Pratt & Whitney J-75-P-17 engine that enables speeds up to Mach 2. This larger engine led to an increase in the aircraft's size. It can carry 4 AIM-4 Falcon missiles and an AIR-2 rocket in the fuselage weapon bay. The F-106 made its maiden flight on December 26, 1956, and entered service in June 1959. A total of 277 single-seat A-type models were produced.
